Is Colombia safe for a teenage girl?

I have friends in colombia I want to visit. If I went I would stay with their families (who are well off if that helps) and be with them the whole time. How safe do you think it would be for an american looking girl, fluent in spanish. It would be in Bogot�, I've just heard mixed reports on the actual safety there.
