Does he want me or hurting me?

I'm on holiday and my ex got back in touch saying he loves me and he's not with the girl he left me for anymore but thing is,he only texts me if i text him first,does he really want me or is he playing silly games?i'm scared of getting hurt again,he said we can meet wheveer i wnat but i find it strange he hasnt asked what date i'm coming back?
